Dayvon Daquan Bennett, known by his stage name King Von, made an impactful debut under Lil Durk’s Only the Family label and featured on tracks like “Crazy Story.”
Grandson Vol. 1 was then released in September 2019, followed by Levon James his debut album released later that March.
1. Stream Welcome To O’Block
King Von emerged on the Chicago drill scene after Lil Durk took notice of his fluid storytelling ability. MC King Von became part of Lil Durk’s Only the Family label and released his debut studio set Welcome to O’Block just one week before being fatally shot outside an Atlanta nightclub a week after its release.
King Von’s estate released a music video for “Armed & Dangerous” in 2021, reflecting upon his gang roots and blood-soaked streets of Chicago as well as offering an indirect jab at fellow rapper NBA YoungBoy in its visual.
King Von’s song describes how he has prepared for an all-out war against his adversaries, clearly alluding to YoungBoy’s feud with OTF collective. Watch below the music video!

King Von Rapper quickly rose to prominence in Chicago’s drill scene after Lil Durk recognized his fluid storytelling. Signing him to Only the Family Records, Lil Durk featured King on “Crazy Story”, while JMP directed its music video which beautifully showcases this vivid style with its chaotic pace while painting an unsettling portrait of street life.
King von autopsy was raised in South Holland, Illinois with his grandmother until he decided to pursue his rapping career on his own. Later he joined the Black Disciples street gang and was charged for being involved with Odee Perry’s death in an alleged murder plot.
King emerged from jail focusing on his musical career and collaborated with such artists as Lil Durk, FBG Duck, NBA YoungBoy, 6ix9ine, 03 Greedo and Sada Baby. However, after viewing an online documentary depicting King as “rap’s first serial killer”, there was significant opposition from friends and followers of this rapper.

This Billboard 200-charting project cemented Von’s reputation as a master storyteller. One standout track from this album, “3 A.M,” finds Von recounting an unusual robbery scene worthy of Twilight Zone.
Drew Filmed It directed the video for this song, amplifying each word spoken by King Von’s raspy delivery with vivid clarity. This testament shows King Von’s meticulous attention to detail and captivating sense of narrative momentum, something which was undeniable even during difficult times in his neighborhood. King Von was always committed to giving back and was an exceptional friend and family man who put others before himself.

King Von’s storytelling ability caught the attention of Chicago rapper Lil Durk, who signed him to his Only the Family label. While his initial single, “Problems,” received some success, it was his 2018 song “Crazy Story” that resonated with audiences more broadly – its video featuring a gripping account of an attempted robbery-turned-shootout attracted millions of views on YouTube.
Grandson Vol 1 marked his first mixtape release and included collaborations with fellow Windy City native Polo G, while being produced by Cheeze Beatz.
On November 6, 2020, tragedy struck when King Von was shot outside an Atlanta nightclub, suspected to be related to gang activity. An associate of rapper Quando Rondo pulled the trigger; King Von later passed away as a result of injuries received. An online documentary entitled King Von: Rap’s First Serial Killer has since been removed after suffering backlash from fans and family of King Von.
